Engineering Data
Below you will find a wealth of engineering data relating to all aspects of our products, including material characteristics, properties, thicknesses, finishes and workmanship acceptance standards.
Engineering Reference Handbook
The purpose of this Engineering Handbook is to help you, our customers, specify
the best Seastrom part for your application. This handbook includes specialized
engineering information on each of our catalog parts. This information is to broaden
your design capabilities by acquainting you with the characteristics of each. An
informed decision on which type of part you need to specify, in most cases, will
reduce your design, tooling and production costs. The specification of one of our
standard catalog parts instead of a custom part will reduce your costs further and
speed your order to you within two business days.
How to Specify Special Parts
The primary way to avoid the development of a special part is to include only the
restrictions which are critical to the functioning of the part.
The restrictions that lead to higher production costs are:
- Over-dimensioning a part
- Non mill standard material, thicknesses and tolerances
- Unneeded temper and hardness ranges and heat treating
- Flatness better than .005 TIR per inch
- Tighter dimensional tolerances than necessary
- Extremely small percentage of burr or burr free condition.
